Two Cultures. One Heart. Celebrating Mother’s Day the Sonora Way

At Sonora Potts Point, we don’t just cook food — we tell stories.
And this May, we’re telling one of the most important stories of all:
The story of mamá.

In Mexico, Mother’s Day is sacred.
In Australia, it’s a cherished national tradition.
So we’re honouring both — with back-to-back celebrations that span continents, generations, and flavours.

🌹 May 10: The Spirit of Mexican Mother’s Day

In Mexico, Día de las Madres isn’t just another calendar event — it’s a cultural cornerstone.
Every year, on the 10th of May, families across Mexico pause to honour the woman who holds it all together. No matter the weekday. No matter the weather. It’s always the 10th.

Why?
Because mothers deserve a day that’s unmoving. Constant. Just like them.

🇲🇽 How Mexicans Celebrate Mamá:

  • The day begins with “Las Mañanitas”, a serenade sung to mothers at sunrise (sometimes by a mariachi band at their front door).
  • Families flood restaurants — or cook heirloom recipes at home — to share multi-generational meals.
  • Churches hold special masses. Schools host performances. Florists run out of roses.
  • It’s emotional, vibrant, and deeply personal — not commercial.

🌼 May 11: Mother’s Day, the Australian Way

Here in Australia, we mark Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May — and in true Aussie style, it’s relaxed, sunny, and joyful.

It’s about sleep-ins, brunches, garden lunches, and handwritten cards on floral stationery.
But at its core? It’s still about the same thing:

Gratitude. Connection. And saying thank you to the woman who never stops showing up.

“This Sunday, we celebrate the everyday magic of mothers.”
