We’re proud to share that Sonora Potts Point has been named one of the Top 100 Mexican Restaurants in Oceania
— an incredible recognition of our dedication to heritage, world heritage-listed Mexican cuisine, innovation, and teamwork.
Unlike many awards driven by PR, this recognition is completely organic. It celebrates what we do in the kitchen, behind the bar, and in creating a dining experience that introduces Australians to the depth, history, and creativity of Mexican cooking.
Showcasing a World Heritage Cuisine
Mexican cuisine isn’t just delicious — it’s recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, on par with treasures like the Great Barrier Reef. Every dish at Sonora is our way of showing Australians the richness of this world heritage cuisine.
From slow-cooked barbacoa to hand-pressed corn tortillas and traditional salsas, we honour centuries-old techniques and recipes. But we also innovate — combining Mexican tradition with Australian ingredients and modern culinary techniques to create something truly unique.
This balance of respect for heritage and modern creativity is at the heart of what sets Sonora apart and is a big part of why we’ve been recognised on this list.

Teamwork Brings Heritage to Life
Innovation and heritage don’t happen in isolation. At Sonora, every team member contributes to the menu and guest experience. Palates are trained, feedback is shared, and every opinion is considered — our innovation is a collaborative effort.
Special shout-outs to our team:
- Abraham Serafin, destined to become one of Australia’s best Mexican chefs.
- Liezl Hernandez, for her steady leadership and dedication.
- Angelica Mae David, who seamlessly moves between the floor and kitchen, keeps service smooth.
It’s this collaboration that allows us to bring world heritage cuisine to life in every dish.

Looking Ahead: Innovation Meets Tradition
This milestone is only a stepping stone. Our goal is to continue pushing Mexican cuisine forward in Australia while keeping its heritage at the forefront.
Starting Sunday, November 23rd, we launch Australia’s only Al Pastor BBQ — a live-fire culinary event celebrating this traditional Mexican technique, reinvented through Sonora’s lens, charcoal-fired, aromatic, and full of flavour.
Why This Recognition Matters
Being named one of the Top 100 Mexican Restaurants in Oceania validates our philosophy: heritage and innovation can coexist, and every dish is an opportunity to share the story and significance of Mexican cuisine with the world.
To our team — thank you for bringing skill, creativity, and passion to every plate.
To our guests — thank you for trusting us to introduce you to this world heritage cuisine.
Here’s to the next chapter of Sonora.
